Worlds largest Beehive
Come and see the Worlds largest Beehive situated at Wolds Way Lavender!
Apart from being what we believe to be the world’s largest beehive our specially shaped structure actually has a practical use. During the season our observaton beehive contains working honey bees busily going about their everyday task of producing the honey.
After collecting the lavender pollen, the bees then take it into their hive and work together to make the honey.
Especially designed for ease of viewing; the frames hold the honeycombs. Bees are in their hundreds on this frame and it is a fascinating process that is well worth watching.
Come and see if you can spot the Queen Bee. Read all about the process on our new display boards; a comprehensive and educational display.
Watch how the bees take turns to be in the middle to keep warm. See if you can spot when some of the bees are preparing to swarm.
Once the frame is full of honey our local bee-keeper collects the honey and fills the jars, which are then ready to be sold in our shop. A local and natural product from Wolds Way Lavender. Delicious!
